U.S. Jobless Claims Fall Sharply

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/20/business/economy/jobless-claims-fall-sharply.html?hp

This article goes in to describe that the people claiming unemployment has dropped to 352,000. This is the lowest it has been since April 2008. Many experts think that inflation has peaked and the prices of corn, wheat, and gas has gone down is main causes for this.

Do you think that the US will sustain this low level of unemployment or do you think that it will just go back to how it was before and start rising?

  1. People claiming unemployment may have dropped because people many have given up looking for a job and their unemployment benefits have run out. Although, more jobs are becoming available so many people may have found employment, but not necessarily in there field of expertise. Also, I think that the economy is slowly climbing out of the recession so hopefully the unemployment will either stay somewhat constant or slowly drop.

  2. I am going to be optimistic and hope that the unemployment rate stays down. I believe that we are slowly climbing out of the whole that we dug ourselves into. Seeing the unemployment rate the lowest that it has been in a while makes me think that things are getting better!

  3. I agree with Colleen that many people have likely taken themselves out of the work force because they have given up searching for jobs. I think that like any cycle the unemployment will steadily rise for sometime, but at some point will begin to fall. I too am optimistic that the rate continues to go down, especially since I plan to enter the labor force this year.

  4. I hope that the unemployment rate has gone down because of more jobs and not because people are taking themselves out of the job search. I hope to see a steady increase in the number of jobs especially in the coming months(by graduation). I personally feel that we are improving and I feel that with the up coming election we can see potential for a greater effect.

  5. I think the unemployment rate will go down, but I do think a very small, maybe even infinitesimal, part of the drop will be due to people taking themselves out of the job search. At least for a little while.
