The US Postal Service is going through some tough times right now (
see here). I never knew it was so expensive to keep the mailing process so fluid, but what do you guys think? With all of our technological advancements and innovation always on the rise, is the old system of mailing doomed anyway? Services provided by
FedEx and UPS may still be quite necessary, but will the few measures suggested in this short article be
adequate? There are a lot of jobs on the line here...
Oh no! Not snail mail! Public libraries, at least to my knowledge, have been similarly strapped for cash. Moves like cutting Saturday service may be the answer in our increasingly paperless world. Also, increasing the usage of PO boxes, particularly in lower density populations may also be a way to cut costs.
ReplyDeleteMail delivery should be privatized. Leave it to UPS or FedEx. They are faster and cheaper anyway.
ReplyDeleteEliminating the Saturday mail service sounds like a fair way for USPS to cut costs. What I wonder is what the mail delivery services will look like in the future. Will all paper mail be cut from these services because paper will rely solely on electronic delivery?
ReplyDeleteI think eliminating the Saturday mail service is an interesting and somewhat fair way for UPS to cut costs. This way businesses and essential overnight shipping items will still be able to ship during the work week. However I think the most innovative approach is to focus on electronic delivery. For the jobs that are lost, is there any alternative for these people?
