Just think...I was going to go to give a preview and short presentation to the class about how the casino looks and is running. The traffic may be too much for me to drive 25 miles north to get to test out this new casino. I heard it opened last night at 10 and it was just packed. I can only imagine this weekend - the casino is giving stuff away. It will draw many from Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids (maybe me). Negative externality for those who don't care to gamble and just want to get home.
The large amount of traffic and closed ramps prevented the women i work with's granddaughter to getting there to work today. I hope they can figure out a solution and the casino stays somewhat busy for the sake of the tribe
Brooks was the first to comment on this one? What a surprise :)
I read awhile back that the casino was bringing three or four hundred jobs to the area. That's good to hear. I don't think I will be going any time soon either, not when the highway is that packed at least. Gambling at the new casino will only add a minimal amount of utility for me. Not enough to overcome the utility lost while sitting in traffic.
I find this article really shocking becuase here we are always talking about how we as a country are seriously suffering from a budget deficit, and that nobody is willing to pay more taxes, and so many people don't want government spending to cut back on programs like unemployment... but the casino is packed to the limits. This reminds me of the article on the lottery, do people really think that it's their luck day? Do this many people really have the extra money to go blow at the casino?
Wow. I guess the possibility of a big payout is enough to make people forget about reality for a while. i'm sure the casino owners are laughing all the way to the bank. The house always wins....
