Gingrich pledges moon colony during presidency

This article I found online states that Newt Gingrich if elected president will put a colony on the moon and develop a spacecraft that would travel to mars by the end of his second term as president. Gingrich proclaimed the "weirdest thing" he ever did in congress was introduce a Northwest Ordinance for space that would allow a moon colony to become a state once 13,000 people lived there. I really don't know what to think about this. Do you actually think that in 8 years time we could have people living on the moon? I personally think Gingrich should be dealing with issues at hand today like the financial crisis or gas prices. Hope you all enjoy the article.

    I completely agree that Gringrich needs to be more focused on our problems that are present in the United States on Earth. Although, a moon colony would be very cool, at this point it is unnecessary for a presidential candidate to focus on and pledge to have a spacecraft to mars by the end of his second term.

    I think that it is a good goal to have. NASA has invented many things that are very important that we use today. Perhaps the innovations that would come in the attempt to put a colony on the moon could be used in the future. It is important that in rough times we don't become completely myopic.

    I don't think that the U.S. possesses the steady hands or the technology to pull a procedure like that off.

    I agree with page saying that we should deal with the things that are important in the US. I can also see Nicks side of it because NASA has invented a lot of great things that we use everyday. I don't think that NASA should be cut completely but i don't think that it is necessary for us to have a colony on the moon as well

    This is why Newt cracks me up. He is all about the one liners. "Did you here, Newt is going to put a colony on the moon", or possibly his most famous "Newt says he will have a flat 15% tax rate for everyone". I appreciate Newt's optimism, and he is extremely innovative, but let's not get carried away.

    Putting a colony on the moon is just like his tax plan, it wont happen.
