Is Ending the Top-Bracket Bush Tax Cuts a Winning Issue for Democrats?

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-03-05/is-ending-the-top-bracket-bush-tax-cuts-a-winning-issue-for-democrats

Public sympathy for the rich has declined significantly, and democrats believe that ending tax cuts for higher income workers will be a popular decision. Some consequences that may result from this are class warfare and the inability to ask for anything in return from the Republicans. Do you think that it is worth it for Democrats to push for this policy now?

  1. I understand why the democrats and the 99% would not want to see tax cuts for the rich, when they are struggling to get by but there could come negative consequences with this decision. In the end, I think that the 1% should not be given these exemptions but they should not be unfairly or overly taxed. It needs to be proportional to their income without being excessive.

    1. Everything in moderation and nothing in excess....this needs to be applied to the tax system as well. I agree with Cate that taxes need to be proportional. Someone who works hard for their money shouldn't be taxed in higher proportion to the ones who don't earn as much.

  2. I agree that they should be given special exemptions and that they should be taxed fairly.

  3. I don't understand how ur saying tax them more but it needs to be proportional to their income. Would a slight increase in taxes really even make much of a difference? I still don't overly see why the rich should be penalized with higher taxes because they have more money. If they want to pay higher taxes great but if not they shouldn't have to.

  5. I think that it would be okay to tax the wealthy a little bit more, but I don't think it should be anywhere near a substantial increase. I agree that it should be proportional to their income.

  6. A substantial increase in taxing the wealthy is unfair. I do not think that it is right for individuals who have done well for themselves to be punished for making more money than others.

  7. I agree with Jake. I do not understand why being rich has such a negative connotation these days. Raising taxes at all is wrong in my opinion. I agree with Mike Page, it probably would not make that much of a difference anyway given the economic state we are in.

  8. I think that every citizen should contribute to aid the country as a whole. I also believe that those who are at a substantially wealthier position should assist the country substantially more than the working class. After all, I think it comes down to how much you care about the country and how much you trust the governmental expenditure.
