New Jobs, Same Unemployment Rate

http://money.cnn.com/2012/03/09/news/economy/jobs_report_unemployment/index.htm?iid=SF_E_Lead

This is an interesting article about the 227,000 new jobs created by employers in the month of February. This is a large increase in the workforce, however the unemployment rate stayed at 8.3%. The article says the new jobs just covered the new entrants into the work force and did not impact the other 8.3%. What do you think about the 227,000 jobs created? Do you think there will be more in the month of March?

  1. Nice article. I think that this is a positive thing. As stated in the article there are going to be more potential for jobs as things progress. It's once again a good step in the right direction and seems to make it appear as though we're only going to go up from here.

  2. I believe that the new jobs available is an optimistic outlook for us and future graduates. For those who are entering the work force immediately after graduation, we hope that more and more jobs will be available for us.

  3. I think that is a good thing. I hope to see more jobs available in March. An earlier blog talked about how there was were more jobs available in January, and if in February there were 227,000 job created I am optimistic for March.

  4. I agree with Mr. Schell. In our situation, post graduate entry-level jobs are definitely needed. I hope the trend of job growth continues into the summer.

  5. I think that the creation of these jobs is definitely a positive sign that the economy is improving. My hope is that it will continue to improve and as Jake commented, post graduate entry-level jobs are extremely important to our generation as we move forward with our lives.

  6. I can't see anything wrong with creation of new jobs. However I feel like we are going to make a dent in our large unemployment rate. I'm optimistic however I feel like we are going to need more on the near future that impacts more than just new entries to the market.

  7. It's good to see job growth in the private sector. Even better economists are using words like encouraging, robust, and even claim that the job market "has turned a corner." I hope this optimism continues and helps boost consumer confidence.

  8. This is definitely a good thing. Hopefully more jobs will come in March. There might not be an immediate effect on the unemployment rate, but if this keeps up, then there definitely will be.

  9. I hope that the creation of new jobs continues for years because there were 8.8 million jobs lost during the crisis.. 230,000 new job positions is nice, but it'd have to stay like this for another 6 years or so to completely recover from the crisis.

  10. I think Samuel makes a good observation. I am still optimistic but this shows that we do still have a long ways to go before we are back where we were before the crisis, and hopefully we will start to see more of a change in the unemployment rate.
