Public Universities Are No Longer A Bargain

http://www.dailyfinance.com/2012/03/07/public-universities-cost-middle-class-students-more-than-harvard/

This is an interesting article that discusses the increase of tuition at public universities between 1997 and now. The conclusion of the article was that it has now become a better deal for kids coming from a middle-class home to go to schools like Harvard that have great financial aid policies to help make college affordable instead of public schools that do not have such great policies. Do you think the government should step in and prevent such drastic increases in public education in order to make the dream of a college education a reality for middle class kids?

  1. I think that education should always be a priority. Education helps to build our future leaders and that is not something that should be taken lightly. Our government should step in to even the playing field for a college education, and not continue to increase the prices to the point it make getting a degree impossible for the middle and lower class kids.

  2. I think that it is important to keep college at a fair price so the people in the middle class can go to college and try to get ahead and have a good life. I dont know if the government should step in but i think that it is important for universities to keep costs low

  3. I'm not sure if the government should intervene in universities. I think colleges should do more on their own to attempt to to keep the prices lower.

  4. I think the government should intervene to aid those without the financial means to advance into these expensive institutions. however, I believe that governmental intervention should not set a line for college tuitions. This should be something that purely reflects the societal demand..
